| 34 Volunteers 492 Volunteer hours 8 regular quilts tied 9 juvenile quilts tied 448 Guests and Members viewed the exhibit 372 Viewers’ Choice Ballots received; 76 guests chose not to vote. 12 ribbons/4 categories – Kasha Abbott constructed the award ribbons, 3” center pineapple blocks-8 by Janet Swan; 4 by Kasha Abbott Appliqué – 7 entries We had many visitors express their interest in quilting in all the forms presented. A number of viewers said they “just couldn’t pick one out of all these beautiful quilts.” We had a few groups stop by our tying table to visit and help out with tying. Several days we had parents with younger children who stopped in the demo room to learn how to foundation-piece a block; two girls went home with a heart block sachet. A great human interest note to the exhibit was a visit from a delightful 101 year old quilter. She marveled at the wide range of quilts presented and carefully looked at all of them. Ocean Waves has many exciting options for showing our quilts other than a QuiltFest-type show --- art centers, museums, libraries, universities, corporate buildings, and don’t forget the Miami-Dade County Fair. Coordinating the 2009 Ocean Waves Quilt Exhibit at ArtSouth has been a positive once - in - a - lifetime experience for me. My thanks to all of you who volunteered in the pre-planning, the fine-tuning, hosting, and closing Ocean Waves Exhibit 2009 at ArtSouth. Closing the exhibit in the most efficient manner was courtesy of Alex and Janet Swan, Gerry and Bud Tucker, Carol Roach, Nancy Buettner, Judy Millero, Phyllis Salt, Anita Thompson, and Lois Erickson. Thank you all most sincerely. A very special thank you goes to Rosa Brito and ArtSouth for giving us this opportunity. |
