HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Ocean Waves will celebrate the season of giving with a project to make and/or donate items for PATCHES, a non-acute pediatric medical facility located in Homestead. PATCHES stands for Pediatric Alternative Treatment, Care, Housing & Evaluation Services. PATCHES provides Monday through Friday skilled nursing for patients ages birth to 21, regardless of their families’ ability to pay. For more information about the work of PATCHES, go to www.patchesppec.org . Many generous Ocean Waves members have made and/or donated items for PATCHES in the past, and PATCHES has been very grateful for our help. The sewn items PATCHES particularly needs from us at this time are: BIBS IN ALL SIZES, COT SHEETS AND CRIB SHEETS. Details about instructions for making these items and a list of other items PATCHES needs (things to purchase such as baby wipes, batteries, diapers, etc) were at the October meeting, and were sent out by email, and will be at the November meeting. This is going to be a fun and fulfilling project for Ocean Waves, which allows us to share our skills and meet a real need.
AMI SIMMS RETURNS TO OCEAN WAVES!!! Our luncheon speaker and teacher this year is the renowned Ami Simms. Ami visited Ocean Waves in 2011 and was a big hit, and she’s back this year with new and different classes and her famous enthusiasm and humor. Ami’s topic for our luncheon lecture will be “Living With Quilts: A Survival Guide.” On Saturday January 9, Ami will teach a half-day workshop on “Freedom to Feather”, and on Sunday January 10 she’ll teach a full-day class on her “Twisted Sisters” quilt. Ami will also bring her traveling “store” of great and hard-to-find notions, books, tools and patterns. This is going to be a fun weekend, so sign up early to reserve your place in these classes. For more info on Ami and her classes, go to www.amisimms.com. Class fees: Saturday Half-Day “Freedom to Feather” class, $30; Sunday Full-Day “Twisted Sisters’ class, $60. Sign up for both for $75!
